STITCH speaks louder than words #IWD16

GET TO THIS >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Stitch Speaks Louder Than Words is a new exhibition specifically curated for International Women’s Day under the theme Women’s Voices. A selection of artists who use stitch in their practice have come together to showcase their work and run workshops throughout the week alongside the exhibition. Stitch has a long-lasting and powerful voice that travels through time and reaches the listening ear in a unique and profound way. Stitch Speaks Louder Than Words demonstrates its use in contemporary art and represents present voices in Manchester while encouraging more voices to come forward and create using stitch.

The exhibition will take place in The Wonder Inn, a local creative wellness centre from Monday 14th March – Sunday 20th March.

A launch event takes place on Monday 14th March, 6-9pm, for a private view of the artist’s work and an opportunity to discuss the work with the artists themselves. Each artwork speaks about women’s rights and different issues or points in time that are significant to women’s achievements thus far or actions yet to be taken.

The workshops coincide with the work on display and are facilitated by the artists:

Tuesday 15th March – 2-4pm – Drop-in Stitch (Free)

Wednesday 16th March – 6-8pm – Portraiture (Free)

Saturday 19th March – 2-4pm – Drop-in and Draw (Free)

Sunday 20th March 12-2pm – Drop-in Stitch (Free)

This exhibition has been curated and organised by an Arts Management, Policy and Practice student from The University of Manchester. Join us at The Wonder Inn to celebrate the diversity of stitch and its powerful voice between Monday 14th March – Sunday 20th March.

Social Isolation …

We’ve started working on an exciting and important project with the women of North Manchester Black Health Forum, and Ms Sheila Fidler (Centre for Human Communication & Deafness, UoM) – around social isolation, wellbeing and cultural heritage. We’ll be showcasing the project as part of Manchester Histories Festival 2016, European City of Science 2016 & Manchester Science Festival 2016.NMBHF project logo
